Volunteer Today!

Rooted in Wyoming volunteers have contributed more than 2,000 hours in 2022!

Volunteer Positions

  • Description: This position oversees all the activity in the garden and ensures the successful implementation of the garden program.

  • Description: Behind every successful school garden is a dedicated team of individuals willing to make a commitment to planning, planting, and maintaining it. This volunteer would be on a team of six to 12 people who are willing to roll up their sleeves and really pull the garden program together.

  • We are looking for families to care for their school garden this summer. This job includes watering, light weeding, harvesting, and welcoming the community into the space.

  • This volunteer would be able to set up and host a RiW booth/table at various events in the community on behalf of Rooted in Wyoming to get people involved and speak to the importance of access to locally grown produce, growing your own food and RiW programming. Examples include Farmer’s Market, Third Thursday, Dead Swede, etc.

  • We often make the most of a volunteer’s talents, interests, and skills through special projects! If you have a specific skill or interest like Carpentry, Graphic Design, Photography, Videography, Web Design or Grant Writing we would love to have you on our team!

  • Ever wondered what happens on the inside at RiW headquarters? Get a sneak peak of the less-glamorous-but-highly-essential work that makes all of our programs possible! Assemble Fundraising packets, address envelopes for Thank You’s, enter information into our database, organize seeds, and whatever else might be going on.

  • Want to be a part of the team that makes the School Gardens possible? We are looking for dedicated volunteers who want to learn more about gardening, teaching, and programming. We will provide training, tools, and encouragement.

  • Every RiW garden is as unique as the population it serves. Our Garden Planner will work with the Garden Leader, School Staff and Teachers, Students, RiW Staff and Board Members to determine the most important needs of the garden community and help design a unique school or community garden based on those needs and wants.

  • Head downtown to enjoy the beautiful farm wall during the peaceful morning hours between 8 and 10 o’clock. Refill the tanks, wet down the walls, clean off dead leaves, and visit with interested passers-by.

  • Come help us set up and run our plant distribution days where participants in our Seed Starting program get to pick up plant starts for their gardens! This is a two-part plant distribution; cool season and warm season plants.

  • We know that taking good care of garden tools is a must but it’s easy to get worn out by the end of the gardening season. If you love to clean, sharpen, and maintain tools—we have a spot for you!

  • RiW hosts approximately 20 Seed Starting workshops in March and April for students across Sheridan County. Each class needs between 4-5 volunteers. We encourage you to volunteer for multiple classes if you are able to.

On-going Commitments

Volunteer Positions

  • RiW’s goal is to build two new gardens each year and we need your help! Come get your hands dirty and improve fresh food access in our community. This position will support RiW staff and garden leaders as they begin building their new garden.

  • Serving as a group with Rooted in Wyoming is great for team-building and building community while getting your hands dirty in the garden! If you have a corporate or community group who would like to volunteer together, RiW can work with you to coordinate a day and time to come out to work in one of our gardens.

  • Hoe Down Volunteers where many different hats throughout the event! There are positions for helping with planning, set-up, children’s activities, parking, decorations, fund-raising, and SO much more!

“Volunteering with Rooted in Wyoming has been a wonderful learning experience for us! It was a great way to meet new people, learn about hydroponics, and get involved in the Sheridan community.”
