Planning for the Woodland Park Elementary Garden of Pride started in 2016.
In 2018, through a grant from the Wyoming Department of Education, working in conjunction with the University of Wyoming’s Agriculture Outreach Program, they built a hoop-house at Garden of Pride under the leadership of Donna Johannesmeyer.
Each year Woodland Park teachers volunteer their classrooms to host a garden bed with classes planting in the spring and harvesting their crops the following Fall. In September 2021, a group of 3rd-5th grade students participated in a culinary collaboration with Cottonwood Kitchen & Home and Chef Aaron!
Additionally, in 2021 the garden began, once again, sharing produce in school lunches in the cafeteria program.
In 2022 they hosted a workday with First Interstate Bank to lay mulch, paint benches and tables, and spruce up the garden. Separately, Woodland Park students participated in RiW's seed starting program, and partnered with Wyoming Wildlife Federation to plant a native sage and pollinator bed!
This beautiful garden hosts 20 raised beds, a strawberry bed, pumpkin patch, Memorial Garden, grape teepee, hoop-house, vermicomposting trench and herb garden! Future plans include adding a butterfly and pollinator garden and maximizing use of the garden for educational opportunities' by adding log benches, tables and additional spaces for learning.
