Every community in Wyoming can grow its own food.
Who we are: Rooted in Wyoming formed in 2016 as a result of the community’s desire to promote local foods, nutrition, and sustainability.
Rooted is collaborative. Our educational programs connect people through gardens, cooking, and enjoying food.
We are guided by the cultures and history of this place, by science, and the awesome power of our environment.
Rooted is dedicated to building and nurturing school and community gardens, and local food projects across Wyoming.
Rooted in Wyoming is a registered 501c-3 non-profit organization managed by a board of directors consisting of community members.

David Johnson
EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR
David was born and raised on a wheat farm near Kimball, Nebraska. He studied agriculture at the Universities of Wyoming and Arizona. David has agriculture policy experience working in Washington, DC, served as a commercial alfalfa & clover breeder, and most recently international agricultural research and development experience throughout Asia, Africa and the Americas while serving as Deputy Director General Research at the World Vegetable Center based in Taiwan. David is passionate to inspire the next generation of agriculturalists to ensure food security.

Jordan Carroll
PROGRAM & OUTREACH COORDINATOR
A full-time student at Sheridan College, Jordan’s pursuing dual majors in Plant Sciences and Rangeland Management. Having a professional background in retail management, Jordan brings a unique mix of leadership, organization, and hands-on experience to our team.
His passion for community, education, and the environment shines through his volunteer work with organizations focused on gardening education and weather monitoring. An enthusiastic composter and gardener, Jordan is excited to share his love for connecting with the land and helping others discover the joy of growing and learning together.This summer, Jordan will be supporting Rooted’s programs and events across Sheridan County before returning to his studies in the fall.

The Local Food Market Coordinator will play a pivotal role in enhancing the local food landscape in Northeast Wyoming, specifically in Sheridan, Johnson, and Campbell counties. This position is funded by the USDA Northwest and Rocky Mountain Regional Food Business Center through University of Wyoming Department of Agriculture & Applied Economics, and will focus on increasing engagement in farmers markets and other local food retail markets, supporting local growers, and fostering connections within the local food community to support economic development. -

The VISTA member will work in coordination with Rooted in Wyoming staff to design, coordinate, and implement volunteer programs focused on school gardens, community gardens, and Rooted in Wyoming agriculture spaces at Bridges. This role will involve engaging parents, families, and community members in educational, hands-on gardening and local food initiatives to foster community involvement, using computer systems to track volunteers, and increase food production for schools and food assistance programs. The VISTA will work closely with school officials, nonprofit organizations, and local partners to recruit, train, and support volunteers. This position will report directly to Rooted in Wyoming’s Executive Director and collaborate with Rooted in Wyoming’s Program and Outreach Coordinator.Contact Ty at Serve Wyoming ty@servewyoming.org for more details.

Olivia Koltiska, Chair
Olivia believes that every child should be given the opportunity to learn about the importance of fresh produce by gardening and experiencing the literal fruits of their labor. She joined Rooted in Wyoming’s board in 2022 after seeing the impact of the garden program on her daughters at Woodland Park. She enjoys gardening, and being outdoors, as well as playing all kinds of sports and games with her family. Olivia is the Investment Operations Manager at Frontier Asset Management.

Micah Most, Vice Chair
Micah was born into an agricultural family on the prairies of western Nebraska. From vast croplands, to native wildflowers, to zinnias and tomatoes in his mother’s garden, he grew up with plant life all around him. Micah’s degrees are in Animal Science. His work as UW Extension Educator in Johnson County is to expand food systems literacy, and food sovereignty efforts in the community. Teaching folks where their food comes from and how they can grow it themselves is his primary passion and focus.

Victoria Gray Martin, Secretary
Victoria is passionate about Rooted in Wyoming’s work to teach children the importance of eating fresh produce, and to get students gardening. She knows this can significantly impact their lives in a positive way, and is excited to help improve local school meal programs. Victoria joined Rooted in Wyoming’s board in 2022. She loves the outdoors, gardening, hunting, fishing, spending time with her dogs, and cooking anything she harvests. Victoria is a Real Estate Agent for Century 21 BHJ Realty.

Fonda Van Nattan, Treasurer
Fonda returned to her hometown of Sheridan after 20 years in the Quad Cities of Illinois/Iowa. Her desire to help others led to work in nonprofit organization management, and continues with her generous volunteering for Rooted in Wyoming. She is passionate about providing children with nutritious food and foundational cooking experience. Fonda loves to cook, bake, spend time with her family, and tend to her herb garden. She is a Finance Manager at Frontier Asset Management.

Jenn Bishop, Board Member
Jenn values her deep family roots in agriculture and business. She and her husband Brian founded Foothills Ag Service in 2004, serving local ag producers by providing contract farming and haying services. The Bishops carved out an intentional path by working together and by homeschooling their children. Jenn is thankful to lead a life centered on working and recreating on the land, and especially enjoys gardening, food preservation, and small-scale livestock production.

Kate Burchell, Board Member
Kate has a deep passion for a more sustainable local food system, and a healthier, more resilient future. She is dedicated to fostering Rooted in Wyoming’s community partnerships in order to create lasting impact. Outside of her work with Rooted, Kate enjoys spending time in the garden, cooking, volunteering, biking, and ultra-running. Whether it's in the soil or on the trails, she loves being outdoors and staying connected to nature.

Jules Craft, Board Member
Jules is a Sheridan native, and works as the science teacher at John C. Schiffer Collaborative School, where she inspires her students to discover the wonders of nature. As an avid home gardener, seed saver, and food preserver, she shares her passion for growing food with her students through the Horticulture class in the school greenhouse. She is talented in the arts, and loves spending time in the natural world as well as getting lost in a good book.

Donna Harris, Board Member
Donna brings experience as an educator and a plant scientist to the Rooted in Wyoming Board. She is passionate about gardening and eating locally grown foods, and believes in the work that Rooted is accomplishing in the community. Donna is currently working on developing tomato and pepper varieties better suited to Wyoming’s climate as Assistant Professor in Plant Breeding & Genetics, and the Whitney Endowed Chair in Plant Sciences at UW's Sheridan Research and Extension Center.

Alex Mansur, Board Member
Alex was born and raised in Gillette, and attended the University of Wyoming where she earned bachelor’s degrees in both Marketing Management as well as Textiles & Merchandising. She has lived in Sheridan since 2017, and has become deeply connected to the community, making Sheridan her forever home. Alex has recently developed a passion for gardening, particularly for growing tomatoes, and appreciates her access to outdoor recreation and the mountains.

Hannah Mills, Board Member
Hannah grew up gardening with her family on the -B- ranch in Lander. She loves the process of growing, preserving, and eating food, and enjoys teaching others how to do the same. Her degrees are in Horticulture, Agroecology, and Rangeland Management. Hannah currently works as the Horticulture Educator for UW Extension in Cheyenne, where she works with Master Gardeners in school and community gardens to promote the growth of communities and local food.

Ann Perkins, Board Member
Ann passionately believes that investments in our youth will pay off dividends in the future. She is interested in locally grown food, and believes that Rooted’s current and future partnerships can be of significant value to our community. Ann is a participant in Leadership Wyoming, and is involved in several state and county organizations concerned with youth and family well-being, including the SCSD2 Board of Trustees. She is the Community Prevention Manager for Sheridan County & Community Service Block Grant Program Coordinator.

David Wasitowski, Board Member
David brings more than three decades of experience in finance to the Rooted in Wyoming Board. His roots in agriculture come from time spent working on his family’s farm in New Jersey, the Garden State. He and his family are now involved in local food production in Sheridan. David is a Master Beekeeper, and previously served as President of the New Jersey Beekeepers Association. David is collaborative, business-minded, and focused on helping Rooted achieve its goals and objectives. He is the Managing Partner of Savile Capital Group.

Jessica Wasserburger, Board Member
A Wyoming native, Jessica grew up gardening with her parents, and loves continuing the tradition with her own family. She has degrees in Kinesiology and Health Promotion along with a Bachelor’s of Science in Nursing. As a registered nurse, witnessing the rise in chronic diseases has strengthened her dedication to promoting a proactive approach to leading healthier lifestyles. Jessica is passionate about education and access to promote physical activity and fresh, nutritious food for local families.

Dana Wyatt, Board Member
Dana is a lifelong resident of Sheridan, and her deep appreciation for the community’s strength and liveliness is an enduring source of inspiration. Her commitment to education and service is proven by her career of over 40 years as a teacher in Sheridan, by her continued dedication to volunteering with WYO Play through the Future Filmmakers Program, as well as her service on the SCSD2 Board of Trustees. Dana is grateful for the opportunities, relationships, and experiences that shape life’s journey.
